Work Injury Compensation

The Workmen Compensation Act was first introduced on 1st October 1975 and the purpose is to provide compensation to workmen for injury suffered in the course of employment.

On 3rd September 2019, Parliament passed an amendment to change the Act which is now known as Work Injury Compensation Act 2019 (WICA 2019).

Under the Act, each and every employer has to insure their own employees regardless of their earnings. In the event of a work-related accident whilst in the course of duty, employer has to compensate the employee under the Act.

Compensation consists of:

  • Medical Expenses
  • Medical Leave Wages
  • Death or Permanent Incapacity

In addition to the Act, insurers also provide coverage for Common Law liability up to a limit of $10million any one accident and in the aggregate.
